I’ve always had to brown meats in another pot when using a crock pot or slow cooker. The cover locks on and it doesnt unlock until all the steam is gone. My Take: The DUO Plus has a nice look with the LCD screen and a handful of extra preset settings (minus the Poultry setting, which strikes me as odd), so you’ll have to decide if it’s worth the extra $20 or so over the workhorse Instant Pot DUO. I put it in the Instant Pot with a packet of onion soup and in an hour it went from a frozen block of chicken thighs to fully cooked. It might be nice if they included more familiar foods such as a basic chili, chicken soup, barbecue ribs and maybe a pasta dish.
